6 Tips to Help you Overcome your Creative Block

You’re doing good and you deserve all the happiness in the world.

If you are a content creator in any way, you know that creative blocks are the devil. They are irritating as hell and they bring down your motivation to a drop. And by the way, everyone is a content creator, let’s not dive into the professional meaning of the word.

As a writer and dancer, creative block lives on my block. To think of topics and content day in and day out can get out-of-my-mind frustrating. Realizing that I may not be the only one, I have compiled a list of things that help me overcome my block. Maybe some of them will work for you as well.

So, here are 6 ways that work for me to survive a creative block:

Take a break

A block is probably your mind’s way of telling to put a halt to your activities. Maybe you are biting off more than you can chew; relax and take a break for a couple of days.

Change your space

This has worked for me adequately. Whenever I am feeling cooped up- and that doesn’t take long in this lockdown- I merely change my workspace. I think a change of environment helps you focus.

If you work by a routine, bring a change into it for a day. Even working at a different time than usual will help you overcome your creative block.

Do something different

Whatever your normal course of business is, do something different- maybe a hobby or even something you have never tried before. My go-to is dance. I close my room, put on some feel-good music, and dance my heart out. If I don’t have the energy, I start by swaying with the music- it truly feels awesome.

Create something random

Whenever I have a block during writing, I start writing about random stuff- a book I read, or something I watched, or just about my day. If not about a random topic, I start writing whatever comes to my mind about my decided topic for the blog. It helps your mind to get in the zone of creativity and you veritably might get some content out of it.

Take a walk or do a workout

Go for a stroll without music. Enjoy the nature around you and take deep breaths. Relax, try to be in the moment, and stop your mind from thinking. If that doesn’t work, do a hard 10-minutes workout (make sure to include a plank). That will stop your mind from thinking too much.

Talk, play, rant

Talk to your friends and family. Rant about whatever you’re feeling; it doesn’t even have to be to a person, you can merely write it down and then tear it up. And one thing that works for me is playing with little children. They make your heart smile; and creativity comes from the heart.

Makes my heart smile:)

These are some of my ways to deal with a creative block. I hope they help you to overcome yours as well- let me know in the comments!

Don’t get disheartened during these times. It’s merely your mind telling you to take a break. You are creative, and nothing is going to change that. Work on yourself for yourself.

Keep the creative vibes flowing,

Pranjali
